Food Drive for Val Verde Baptist Food Bank Service Project 21 November 2009
Fourteen Cub Scouts from Pack 287 participated in our food drive supporting the Val Verde Baptist Church Food Bank ministry. Organized by new volunteer Martha Romero, the boys each delivered 50 bags to neighbors with a note attached instructing them to leave food in the bag the coming Saturday on their front porch if they wished to help. That Saturday the boys collected 327 bags of food! The Val Verde Food Bank serves families in the Golden Triangle area - typically 300 families each month. It is open every first and third Tuesday. Food stocks have been running low due to the depressed economy, so the food the boys collected was a welcome relief. Val Verde gets most of the food from the Southeast Texas Food Bank, which it pays for using donations from church members, so the generosity of the people of Groves and the efforts of the Cub Scouts of Pack 287 helped them reach more people this holiday season. Words from Clyde Frasier. How easy was it to collect bags. |
