Den Details A Cub Scout den is a group of five to nine boys, within the pack, that meets several times a month between pack meetings. The boys in a den are usually all at the same grade level. The den structure allows boys to build relationships with leaders and other boys. The den provides opportunities for activities that would be difficult with a large group. The den also provides leadership opportunities for the boys. Pack 287 currently has one den at each rank (age level). A well-structured den meeting will have a Gathering Activity, an Opening Ceremony, the Program, and a Closing Thought. The program is designed to help the boys work towards earning awards and prepare them for the upcoming pack meeting. It will frequently tie in to the monthly theme. Although a den meeting will usually be held in the same place (usually either at a leader's house or at the church), the dens are encouraged to have an outing each month.
